SLOW CHRISTMAS / minimal gifts
—
Why not slow down, give less and experience more this Christmas? What a relief to not worry SO much about “what to give” and more about being intentionally WITH the people you love!
CHRISTMAS BARK
Ingredients/Supplies:
- Baking Sheet // Parchment Paper (mason jars or other glass containers!)
- 1 cup organic brown sugar.
- 1 cup vegan butter of choice (I used Earth Balance sticks)
- 1.5ish cups vegan chocolate chips (I used enjoy life semi sweet choc chips)
- 1-2 sleeves of organic saltines (I used Whole Foods 365 brand) you can also use pretzels!
- Toppings if you want: crushed candy cane, nuts or seeds, coconut shavings etc!
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 400F and line baking sheet with parchment paper (cover the whole baking sheet entirely!!)
- Line your saltines on the baking sheet.
- In a sauce pan on low heat, start melting the butter.
- Add the brown sugar and stir slowly as the butter melts.
- When butter is entirely melted, turn the heat to high and bring to a boil.
- Let it boil for about 30 seconds.
- Turn heat off and slowly pour the mixture over the saltines!
- Bake in the oven for 5 minutes.
- Evenly distribute chocolate chips over top and pop in the oven for another 2 min.
- With a metal spoon, begin to smooth out the chocolate chips evenly.
- Let it cool down for a while and pop in the fridge after the pan itself isn’t hot anymore!
- Once it is chilled completely, crack into pieces and pop in the mason jar!
DRIED ORANGE ORNAMENTS
Supplies/Ingredients:
- Large navel oranges.
- Baking sheet // parchment paper.
- String of choice.
- Tiny screw driver to poke holes (or something similar!)
- Sprigs of evergreen tree or cinnamon bark etc!
Instructions:
- Pre-heat oven to around 150-200F .. you can also convect bake (which circulates air) but do 150F if possible or keep a close eye depending on your oven and how hot it gets! You don’t want to burn them.
- Slice oranges into very thin slices!
- Lay flat on the baking sheet and pop in the oven for 60 min.
- Rotate / flip and continue on for 30 minute increments until you reach a total time of about 3 hours (again very dependent on your oven but 3 hours should do it!)
- Make sure you let them cool down and then poke 2 holes close to each other but not too close or the seam will rip making 1 big hole!
